My health, wellness, and fitness journey has been a long, turbulent, yet joyous adventure. Overall health and wellness became a serious focus of mine when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 while serving in the military as an active duty Air Force Civil Engineer officer.  Having had cancer, one knows that you are prone and susceptible to having cancer again.  This knowledge first led to being an entrepreneur, consulting and coaching clients on taking care of your largest organ (your skin), preventing skin cancer, resolving other skin related issues, and eating “cleaner” within my diet limitations than I had been prior to cancer.

Although required to stay averagely fit while serving in the military, my CrossFit journey didn’t truly start until 2012 while preparing to deploy to Iraq for a year away from my family.  Late in my deployment, my oldest son, Cody, spent some time in the hospital in a coma prior to my returning home from deployment in 2013. He was diagnosed with Type I diabetes.  A down and dirty quick education on how typical Americans eat and forget to move truly made me believe that health and fitness had to be at the forefront of our lives and I then added nutrition and supplements to my consulting business.

Through the years, I have consulted clients helping them reach their health and fitness goals through the understanding how the pillars of health…hydration, detoxification, nutrition [when and what you eat], gut health, sleep [when and how you rest], stress reduction [albeit breathing, meditation, etc.], balancing of hormones, exercise [when and how you move], supplementation [nutritional gap fulfillment], and skincare [what’s your largest organ?].  Every person is unique and all of these pillars play a important and interrelated part in the journey to  overall health, wellness, and fitness.

On the home front in 2013, I began giving Cody (Adrian and Chanel in a lesser fashion) body weight exercises and simple WODs in my home gym in Alexandria when he was 13 years old.  However, I knew it was time for traditional CrossFit box instruction when I moved to Lorton in 2014 and Cody had started kicking my butt in all the WODs that we did in my home gym.  We exercised together as a family at CrossFit Lorton. CrossFit Lorton with its great coaches, and camaraderie shaped all of my family’s relationships with wellness, health and fitness.

After having to move away from Lorton on military orders, my family visited many CrossFit boxes trying to find the right fit.  In 2018 after 12 years of remission, another tumor was discovered, fully encapsulated, and thankfully was removed.

The right fit for CrossFit instruction did not happened until after retiring from the military in 2019, marrying the man of my dreams, Bill, and moving to King George. We continued the tradition of going to BIO CrossFit as a family, introducing each of our four school age kids to CrossFit and all it has to offer any age or fitness level. Not only does it serve as a way to exercise and move, but the camaraderie also creates a community-inclusion mindset that relieves stress, and statistically….helps us all live longer.
